We’re pleased to announce the second in our Current± Briefings webinar series will welcome Mike Ryan from Habitat Energy to discuss the future of Dynamic Containment.
Since it was first launched by National Grid ESO in October 2020, the post-fault frequency service has attracted a lot of attention due to its high prices and technological challenges. These have meant that the service has remained undersubscribed despite offering prices of £17/MW/hr – more than double those on offer in other services.
But as the industry has adjusted and more storage capacity has come online, the question now is how long will it be until the capacity is full and prices begin to drop?
On 16 June, we’re going to discuss with Ryan the economic impact of Dynamic Containment reaching capacity for the storage sector, how procurement at a more granular level on a pay-as-you-clear platform will work and ask whether the follow up Dynamic services from National Grid ESO will have as great an impact.
Ryan is responsible for Habitat’s Dynamic Containment, wider ancillary service and merchant market strategy, as well as overseeing the company’s trading team’s activities. Prior to his current role at Habitat he worked as the operability strategy manager at National Grid ESO where he led the team that developed the operator’s ancillary service road map.
Current± Briefings: The future of Dynamic Containment follows a fantastic discussion with Iain Nicoll from Elexon earlier this month on the P375 balancing and settlement code modification. If you missed the session, you can now watch the whole thing here.
