More than 25,000 households have received payments from the domestic renewable heat incentive (RHI) since it was launched in April 2014, according to the government’s latest figures.
The Ofgem quarterly RHI report reveals that current take up of the scheme results in a total commitment of £323 million over the lifetime of the scheme. The first year will see almost £110,000 of payments distributed between both legacy and new applicants. According to the figures published by Ofgem, there has been 15,688 legacy applications and 6,244 in the year that the scheme has been operational.
Green Square, supplier of domestic RHI-eligible equipment, welcomed the new figures. Richard Hiblen, director at the company commented: “As a country we are certainly moving in the right direction. The RHI scheme is evidence that the powers that be are acknowledging how imperative it is that we adopt long-term sustainable solutions to the reality of diminishing fossil fuels.”
Hiblen continued: “Homeowners are starting to realise the benefits not only from an environmental point of view but also from a financial and interior design perspective. At Green Square, we are very much an advocate of the RHI scheme and welcome many more years of renewable energy contributions for homeowners and small business that require our services.”
