Octopus Energy’s Kraken Technologies has entered into a strategic partnership with Eni Plenitude to use the platform to support long-term growth in international retail energy markets.
As per the agreement, Plenitude will progressively adopt the Kraken platform in the countries where the company operates its international retail energy business, which currently consists of around 2 million customers in France, Greece, Slovenia, Spain and Portugal.
Plentitude will look to replace its current technology, a current stack of legacy CRM, billing and industry integration solutions with a single platform. This boasts several benefits such as simplification of process and unlocking a streamlined method in managing Plenitude’s retail energy business.
“Growth in international markets is key to achieving Plenitude’s target of 15 million retail customers by 2030. The partnership with Kraken substantiates Plenitude’s strategy to develop a lean, scalable international retail energy business,” said Mauro Fanfoni, head of International Retail Markets of Plenitude.
“Supporting the growth of our retail customer base in international markets and fostering integration with our renewables and e-mobility businesses.”
Kraken is used across numerous different countries by companies including EDF, E.On, Octopus Energy, Origin, Tokyo Gas, Good Energy and Hanwha’s Nectr. It had already gone through c. 20 rapid, successful migrations, it was stated in November.
Just yesterday (11 May) Current+ reported that Masdar would utilise the Kraken platform as a means to manage its UK battery storage portfolio. This follows Masdar’s commitment to invest £1 billion in UK battery storage after acquiring Arlington Energy in October 2022.
Under the agreement, the Kraken software will allow Masdar to control the performance of its batteries and enable them to store and discharge electrons in the “greenest possible way.”
Octopus Energy founder, Greg Jackson, said: “Kraken is like iOS for energy. Its unrivalled technology allows utilities to give more power to their people and streamline processes. We’re delighted to bring Kraken to Plenitude in multiple countries – helping create a customer-centric energy transition faster than anyone imagined.”
