A 236-bay electric vehicle (EV) charging hub is to be installed at the Brent Cross Shopping Centre car park in north London by Franklin Energy.
The landlord-owned EV charging hub will be the UK’s largest on competition, according to joint owners of the destination Hammerson and Aberdeen Standard Investments.
It is to be constructed over the next five years, with the chargers to be operated and maintained by Franklin Energy on the LiFe Network and supplied by EVBox.
Installed in phases, the first phase will see the installation of 50 22kW AC chargers in the multi-storey car park and two 350kW DC chargers in the Western overflow car park.
Electricity for the chargers is to be provided by REGO-backed clean electricity contracts.
Alongside use by customers of the shopping centre, the chargers are also to be available for cars passing by on the nearby M1, A41 and A406 via the North Circular, with c.80 million cars passing through Brent Cross’ interchange every year.
Niall Macdonald, deputy fund manager for the Aberdeen Standard UK Shopping Centre Trust, said: “The scale of this installation of EV charging points at Brent Cross is our most ambitious to date and we believe it will provide a fantastic service to our customers allowing them to make the change to EV confident in the knowledge that this facility is available to them.”
Other large-scale UK charging hubs include the rapid charging motorway hub developed by InstaVolt, as well as the 100 Electric Forecourts under development by GRIDSERVE and a motorway hub with 24 ultra-rapid 350kW chargers split between the Tesla and Electric Highway networks.
