British energy technology company GridBeyond has expanded into Japan thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding with engineering company and EPC contractor Chiyoda Corporation.
The two will collaborate on providing flexibility services to the Japanese electricity markets. They will utilitse Chiyoda’s infrastructure resources along with GridBeyond’s software platform Point to allowing industrial and commercial customers as well as generators, battery develops and other market stakeholders to participate in grid services including Demand Side Response.
GridBeyond currently operates in the UK, Ireland and Texas’ ERCOT market in the US, and partnering with Chiyoda marks a “significant step forward in the global growth of GridBeyond” said Michael Phelan, the company’s CEO and co-founder.
“GridBeyond’s experience in supporting the transition in some of the world’s most advanced energy markets spans more than a decade and includes countries such as Ireland, the UK, and the USA. We are perfectly positioned to ensure I&C businesses, battery developers, and investors in storage, generation and EV charging assets in the Japanese market are able to take full advantage of market opportunities while simultaneously supporting decarbonization of the wider economy.”
Current± caught up with Phelan at the end of 2020 to discuss after the company announced it had laid down the work to became the first company to enable industrial and commercial (I&C) access to the lucrative Dynamic Containment mechanism.
