Solar Media, the publisher of Clean Energy News, is delighted to introduce the Future Power Networks UK conference, a new launch event for 2018.
To be held between 25 – 26 September in central London, the event intends to tackle some of the emerging and most pressing themes emerging from the UK’s energy transition.
There has never been a more crucial time for detailed and informed strategy in the UK’s power sector. As generation is rapidly becoming more decarbonised and decentralised, both the distribution and transmission grids are having to adapt to the new energy normal at a frenetic pace.
The UK’s distribution network operators have invested around £100 billion in their networks since 1990, and industry regulator Ofgem is busy readying the next set of cost controls as the energy transition prepares to shift into gear.
The two-day conference will broach topics such as;
- The changing utility market, and how new entrants from the technology sector could bring about rapid change,
- The transition from DNOs to DSOs,
- The rise of virtual power plants and the role they stand to play in the provision of much-needed system flexibility,
- A deep dive into Ofgem’s RIIO 2 and what it means for DSO business plans, and;
- The positioning of emerging technology and software solutions such as blockchain and the internet of things in the future energy marketplace.
Early speakers on the Future Power Networks UK programme include Ecotricity head of smart grids Mark Meyrick, Electron COO and co-founder Joanna Hubbard, Imperial College London senior research fellow Jeff Hardy and Energy Networks Association’s head of innovation Randolph Brazier.
Representatives from Ofgem, National Grid, UK Power Networks and Good Energy will also speak.
Lola Zafra, conference producer at Solar Media, said: “Future Power Networks is born from the necessity to discuss the UK’s energy transition, the impact of European and government legislation around energy and carbon as a key driver for the strategy to contribute to the CO2.
“The technological development is playing an important role in the energy revolution bringing new capacity in the form of energy storage and a new generation of batteries. The future wave of electronic vehicles which will have a great impact in the form of increased demand, as well as the subsidy-free market and the uncertainty in how Brexit will affect the energy market in the UK, are the main factors on the changing energy market’s landscape.”
Tickets are available to purchase now and a super early bird rate of £999 for the conference is available until 25 June 2018. More information on ticket pricing and to secure your place at Future Power Networks UK 2018 can be found here.
