Electric vehicle charging company NewMotion has appointed Melanie Lane as its new CEO.
Lane succeeds Sytse Zuidema, who held the position for the last five years. Lane assumed her new role on 1 April after 20 years at Shell, with the O&G major having bought NewMotion in 2017.
Having previously held various marketing, commercial and business development roles, Lane is now to be responsible for the strategy and further growth of the company.
She stated she is “excited to be joining this team” at a time when NewMotion’s network is “expanding rapidly” and is set to soon reach a new milestone of 150k charge points in the roaming network.
“This is only the start of the upscaling of e-mobility solutions which is essential to facilitate mass adoption of EVs. We will continue to expand our business to facilitate a cleaner smarter energy future,” Lane added.
Due to starting her position during the COVID-19 pandemic, her priority is with the care of the people, customers and partners of NewMotion, the company said.
“Melanie has an impressive track record of transforming businesses by putting the needs and nature of customers at the very heart of her strategic approach,” Elisabeth Brinton, executive vice president of new energies at Shell, said.
“Her leadership will help to ensure NewMotion remains innovative and well placed to support the increase of EV driver numbers across Europe.”
NewMotion made a number of agreements in 2019, signing a roaming agreement with Vattenfall in August and then another roaming partnership with ChargePoint a month later.
It also signed a deal with Ford to provide drivers with access to its EV charging network.
