RenewableUK has announced that its chief executive, Melanie Onn, is to step down at the end of March this year.
Since joining in February 2020, Onn has worked with RenewableUK’s Board to develop its Just Transition Tracker framework to set out the energy sector’s commitment to support the current skilled workforce, as well as develop green skills as the energy sector moves to renewable energy.
The sector is increasing its support of the energy workforce during the renewable transition; last December, a Future Energy Skills Board, made up of businesses, trade unions and academics was created to support this just transition into renewable energy for example.
Onn also worked on the Offshore Wind Industry Council’s ‘Investment in Talent’ workstream, which produced its first Skills Intelligence Report last year, setting out new targets for growth as well as best practice guidance to build a diverse workforce.
Last November, Onn and RenewableUK’s chief executive Dan McGrail joined the mounting support given for the former Secretary of State, Simon Clarke MP to lift the de facto ban on onshore wind.
“I’m incredibly proud of the significant impact RenewableUK has had in driving forward policies to deliver net zero,” said Onn.
“This has been an incredibly exciting time to be part of the renewables industry and I have loved working with this enthusiastic and committed team, who I know will continue to do great things for the sector. My thanks to the team and RenewableUK members for their kindness and support over the past three years, it’s been a privilege and an education to represent the sector.”
