Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric Power Products have entered into an agreement to acquire Smarter Grid Solutions.
The acquisition is expected to close in the next several weeks, with Smarter Grid Solutions to maintain its operations in Glasgow, Scotland.
It is to help expand the reach of Smarter Grid Solution’s energy management enterprise software to distributed energy resources (DER) customers round the globe.
“We look forward to marrying their products with our suite of grid control products to help our customers respond to changes and still get the best performance from their electric grids,” said Brian Heery, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Electric Power Products.
SGS offers controls solutions that allows users to integrate DER for capacity management, flexible interconnection, virtual power plants, microgrids, fleet energy asset operations and energy as a service.
In January, the company announced it was to provide active network management in the QUEST project, looking to free up network capacity for over 2GW of clean energy assets and save networks over £250 million.
The project saw Smarter Grid Solutions’ Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) software used to create a fully coordinated, overarching system to manage voltage and balance centralised and decentralised energy control systems.
Graham Ault, executive director of Smarter Grid Solutions, recently wrote an in-depth explanation for Current± of the need for DERMS and how it could help make the energy transition smoother and more cost effective.
