Motorway service company Moto and GRIDSERVE have launched 24 high-power electric vehicle (EV) chargers in three different charging hubs located in Exeter, Burton-in-Kendal and Swansea.
The site in Exeter will see the most installations, with an initial 12 high-power 350kW chargers, and a further 12 more due to be installed later this year, while six high-power 350kW charging points have been installed at the Burton-in-Kendal and Swansea sites.
After opening the new site in Burton-in-Kendal, Moto is planning to open more sites this year in the North, with the aim to redress the “inequalities” of charging devices availability between London and North West and North East regions.
The company said with the addition of these 24 high-power EV chargers, will increase its network by 50% ahead of the Easter holiday.
Ken McMeikan, Moto chief executive, said: “We are accelerating our ambition to open Ultra Rapid Charging Hubs at all of our Motorway Service Areas over the coming 12 months and are delighted with the progress that our partnership with GRIDSERVE is making towards delivering a future of more sustainable motoring.”
All of the chargers will be supplied by GRIDSERVE’s solar farms and accept contactless payments.
Last February, Moto and GRIDSERVE opened its first high-powered EV charging hub in Wales.
Recently, a research from Delta-EE expects the UK to have the second largest high-power charging market with 28,000 installed by 2030.
