Update: the capacity market notice at at 5:05pm.
National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) has issued a capacity market notice for this evening.
Issued at 1.34pm, the notice is for 6pm when the operator expects the Transmission Demand and Operating Margin to be 35,338MW, with 35,511MW of Aggregate Capacity of BM Units expected.
The notice follows the ESO issuing two similar notices on 18 July amid surging temperatures across the UK and Europe. With the rising demand from cooling systems and generators such as gas turbines, nuclear and some renewables struggling in the heat, capacity on Britain’s electricity system was stretched.
Both today and July’s notices are a rare occurrence, with CMN’s predominantly used to manage winter peak demand periods.
