EV charging network operators NewMotion and ChargePoint have signed a roaming partnership for the UK and Europe.
The agreement will allow for customers of both networks to access the other’s infrastructure without needing to crate new account.
It is expected to come into effect by the end of the year, and is to also include the InstaVolt network of rapid DC charging stations which ChargePoint has had exclusive access to since 2017.
Sytse Zuidema, chief executive at Shell-owned NewMotion, said the agreement was a big step forward for the UK’s public charging network.
“We are pleased to offer our UK drivers additional access to ChargePoint, Inc’s network that includes a good few hundred rapid chargers. With this we’re able to expand our European charging network that already includes over 118,000 charge points,” Zuidema added.
The agreement comes amidst a raft of partnerships and collaborations within the EV charging infrastructure sector. Earlier this week Nissan and EDF penned an agreement to collaborate on vehicle-to-grid chargers, while NewMotion also signed an agreement with automotive giant Ford.
