Access to 200,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints is now on offer across through NewMotion’s network 35 European countries in a new milestone.
Its first 100,000 – achieved in March 2019 – took 10 years to reach, with the company now having doubled this figure in the space of two years, something which it said reflects the speed that the EV industry itself is growing.
The network – which has signed partnerships with a number of other chargepoint operators to give its users access to the milestone number of chargers – enables drivers to roam “seamlessly” across Europe, with continued growth on the horizon as it looks to support Shell’s ambition to operate 500,000 chargepoints by 2025.
NewMotion was acquired by Shell in 2017, with the O&G major having also acquired on-street charging firm ubitricity earlier this year.
NewMotion currently collaborates with over 200 roaming partners, with recent partnerships including Char.gy, Osprey and Onto.
Melanie Lane, CEO of NewMotion, said that by growing the network through partnerships the company is helping to reduce range anxiety and improve interoperability throughout Europe, with plans to “continue to look for more partners with open networks who want to make EV charging easy for drivers”.
