Octopus Hydrogen has agreed a logistics partnership with Greenergy Flexigrid for the delivery, storage and dispensing of green hydrogen on customer sites.
One of the major stumbling blocks for the green hydrogen economy is the costs associated with transporting the clean energy carrier. With the production of green hydrogen already high, the expensive means of transporting it can also drastically increase its price thus leading to fewer offtakers.
In a bid to rectify this, Octopus Hydrogen will utilise its NanoSUN mobile refuelling units which offer a local distribution and transportation method for green hydrogen. NanoSUN can be used to create an effective hydrogen fuel infrastructure and support the rollout of hydrogen mobility solutions and industrial practices.
The first delivery for these units was completed in December 2022 with more scheduled for 2023.
“We want to support our customers to achieve their decarbonisation strategies. The efficient transportation of green hydrogen direct to where they need it is a core part of what we offer. It’s great to be working with Greenergy on providing this essential service to our customers. Together we’re making green hydrogen happen today,” said Will Rowe, founder and CEO of Octopus Hydrogen.
Providing a storage and transportation solution for hydrogen could well be a revelation in the creation of low-cost hydrogen value chains across the UK, providing more companies with an opportunity to use hydrogen to decarbonise operations.
Octopus Hydrogen has additionally been exploring solutions to support the UK’s budding hydrogen market and last year signed an agreement with BayWa r.e. to develop green hydrogen production facilities.
An initial pipeline of projects had been identified with the companies stating it could produce up to 6,500kg/day of green hydrogen if this came to fruition. This hydrogen would then be distributed to Octopus Hydrogen’s customer sites, to support the decarbonisation of industries such as heavy transport, shipping and aviation.
“As part of our approach to support our customers through the energy transition, we are working with Octopus Hydrogen as the first step in our strategy to deliver hydrogen,” said Christian Flach, CEO of Greenergy.
“Greenergy’s expertise in specialist logistics and our scalable service offer allow us to provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation delivering green hydrogen directly to customer sites across the UK, helping them to decarbonise.”
