Pod Point has become one of BMW Group UK’s preferred partners for its electric vehicles (EVs) under the BMW and MINI brands on a referral basis in a three-year deal.
This will see Pod Point carry out consultation, delivery, installation and activation of EV chargers once ordered at a BMW Centre. Drivers will also be able to access Pod Point’s public charging network of over 6,200 charging bays.
Meanwhile, Pod Point’s Solo 3 home chargers can get over-the-air software updates to unlock new features without needing to change the physical charger, receive software fixes for optimal performance and allow Pod Point’s support team to perform remote diagnostics – when connected to WiFi.
Pod Point also pointed to the current high household energy bills, with the company able to reduce the cost of charging via its charge scheduling function, which allows drivers to charge at specific times to take advantage of dual-rate tariffs.
The app’s charge activity monitoring feature also provides insights into energy usage, with this enabling drivers to determine how much energy they are using to charge their vehicle and the overall cost over a specified period of time.
Daniel Elliott, emobility product manager at BMW UK, praised Pod Point for “providing reliable, easy to use home charging products with a proven reputation for delivering outstanding customer service”.
“Furthermore, the inclusion of Pod Point’s public charging network within BMW Charging further cements BMW’s focus on creating easy and convenient access to public charging, anywhere, using just the BMW Charging Card or My BMW App.”
The new deal follows Pod Point listing on the London Stock Exchange last year, with EDF acquiring a major stake in the company in 2020.
