SSE Energy Solutions has announced a partnership with electric vehicle (EV) fuel card company Paua Tech that will see Paua customers gain access to SSE’s ultra-fast charging network.
The agreement will allow Paua drivers to use their EV fuel cards for full-access to SSE’s growing network of ultra-fast charging hubs.
Simon Pickett, EV Technology and Innovation lead at SSE, said the partnership was a “great opportunity for SSE Energy Solutions and Paua to collaborate, supporting fleet charging with as little fuss as possible.”
A recent EV study by Which? found that from a group of 1,500 EV drivers, 61% had experienced difficulties making payments at charging points. The electric fuel card created by Paua combines the technology in EV’s with smart phones to simplify this charging process.
The partnership will now allow Paua customers, which are businesses fleets, not consumers, to benefit from SSE’s charging network. This includes charging hubs due to be installed in 20 retail parks as a result of SSE’s recently confirmed deal with M7 Real Estate.
SSE also plans to improve the efficiency of charging spots by opening 300 of its own ultra-fast charging hubs across the UK and Ireland in the next five years. The Paua fuel cards can already be used at the first of these hubs which went live in September on Castlebank Street, Glasgow.
Co-founder and CEO of Paua, Niall Riddell, said: “when leading utilities, such as SSE, enter the infrastructure arena, the pace of change is going to be significant.”
