Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is now offering data on electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint availability within its Power Track app.
The app – which allows users to report and view live power cut information – will now display EV chargepoint information from the National Chargepoint Registry in the event of a power cut.
Users of the app will therefore be able to locate, filter and get direction to the nearest EV chargepoint, with over 13,000 public charging locations being added to create one of the most comprehensive and accurate databases on EV chargepoints in the UK, SSEN said.
The distribution network operator (DNO) went on to outline how data sharing and cooperation will play a vital role in ensuring preparedness for the forecasted rapid uptake of low carbon technologies, with over 5 million EVs forecast to be in its distribution area by 2050.
Richard Hartshorn, SSEN’s EV readiness manager, said the incorporation of the National Chargepoint Registry data into the Power Track app provides drivers with “greater ease of use” and presents an “exciting opportunity for data sharing and cooperation”.
The Power Track app has been downloaded almost 100,000 times according to SSEN, lauding it as the first app to be released by a network operator that allows members of the public to report damage to the electricity network, track power cuts and share photos of any issues directly with the SSEN’s teams.
Chargepoint information is available on the Power Track app for both Apple and Android devices, and will be available by July 2021 on SSEN’s website.
