Energy giant Vattenfall has landed a new contract to install electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the UK after landing a tender from Canterbury City Council.
The Swedish state-owned energy firm will install a total of 12 InCharge EV charging points this month in conjunction with its long-term installation partner BMM Energy Solutions.
The charging points will be supplied by 100% renewable power from Vattenfall’s British wind farms, including those located off the Kent coast.
The tender win is Vattenfall’s second EV charging contract in as many months. In December 2018 the company installed its maiden EV chargers in the UK, completing 20 installs on behalf of South Norfolk Council.
Anthony Hinde, managing director for InCharge in the UK at Vattenfall, lauded the company’s success in landing the contract so soon after completing its first project.
“With InCharge we are determined to put the driver first and enable fossil free living within one generation. Our charging stations, combined with future roaming agreements with other charging station operators, will improve the EV driver experience in Kent and across Britain,” he said.
The installations will meanwhile aid Canterbury City Council’s plans to improve the city’s air quality and councillor Simon Cook, leader of Canterbury City Council, described the project as an “important first step”.
“Our partnership with Vattenfall means motorists driving cleaner and greener electric cars will find life that little bit easier while being powered by renewable energy.”
