Western Power Distribution (WPD) has concluded its latest flexibility tender, securing 16.7MW across three contracts.
This takes its total contracted flexibility up to 456.5MW across 56 constraint locations. Battery storage company Zenobe Energy scooped up one of the contracts, with James Basden, founder and director of Zenobe, stating this “highlights the vital role battery storage plays and will continue to play in the future of energy”.
The other two contracts were awarded to Lightsource Labs and to Cynon Power, with this latest tender seeing the first contracts put in place using the Energy Networks Association’s latest Standard Flexibility Agreement.
This was created through the Open Networks Project with input from distribution network operators (DNOs) and National Grid ESO, with the aim of providing a consistent GB-wide core agreement for those looking to provide flexibility to the networks.
It is being offered by all of the DNOs, having been first announced in April 2020 and updated in March 2021.
A timeline has now been released by WPD for its next cycle of procurement, with requirements to be published on 28 June, ITT issued on 2 August, an ITT deadline of 10 September and procurement results on 1 October.
The results of this latest tender were published on the Flexible Power website, a platform designed to make engaging with network flexibility simpler.
Electricity North West became the latest DNO to join the platform earlier this month, with work continuing on the platform to enable interface capability with other flexibility platforms.
