ABB is to launch a 360kW electric vehicle (EV) charger, with this to be the fastest available.
The Terra 360 is a modular charger that can simultaneously charge up to four vehicles with dynamic power distribution, with ABB claiming it to be the only charger designed explicitly to charge up to four vehicles at once.
Its maximum output of 360kW also means it can fully charge any electric car in 15 minutes or less, with the ability to add 100km of range in less than three minutes.
The charger is to be available in Europe from the end of 2021, and in the USA, Latin American and Asia Pacific regions in 2022.
It features a lighting system which guides the user through the charging process and shows the state of charge of the EV battery and the residual time before the end of an optimal charge session. It is also wheelchair accessible and features an ergonomic cable management system.
It can be installed at fueling stations, convenience stores and retail locations, as well as on an organisation’s commercial premises to charge electric fleet cars, vans and trucks.
Frank Muehlon, president of ABB’s e-mobility division, said that the demand for EV charging infrastructure, in particular charging stations that are fast, convenient and easy to operate, is higher than ever due to governments around the world writing public policy that favors EVs and charging networks.
“The Terra 360, with charging options that fit a variety of needs, is the key to fulfilling that demand and accelerating e-mobility adoption globally,” Muehlon said.
Last year, IONITY ordered 324 of ABB’s 350kW chargers with the intention of rolling these out across 24 countries by the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, ABB is looking to electrify its own fleet, with Centrica providing installations of chargers for ABB UK.
