British company EB Charging, who make Electric Blue EV charging stations, are rebranding as Blink Charging UK following their acquisition by US firm Blink Charging.
The rebrand is designed to give Blink a “significant visible footprint” the company said, with more than 1225 chargers in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Michael D. Farkas, founder and CEO of Blink Charging, said: “the market opportunity in the United Kingdom and Ireland is substantial and was a significant factor in our consideration for the EB Charging acquisition. While overall vehicle sales in the United Kingdom are slow, EVs outpaced expectations, accounting for nearly 17% of new vehicle registrations last year. The acceleration of EV adoption demands the EV charging infrastructure to support it.”
Blink began its operations in Greece in 2019 and has so far rolled out over 65,000 charging ports in 27 countries.
In June 2022, Current± reported that Blink’s acquisition of EB Charging “was made through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Blink Holdings BV, for up to approximately US$23.4 million (£18.8 million), in a combination of cash, stock and earn out.”
EB Charging’s customers were mostly local authorities, NHS healthcare trusts, universities and fleets. Blink plans to expand the company’s offering in the UK to include new commercial and home chargers, new global network services and apps, and new fleet management tools.
Blink has been expanding globally, also moving into the Indian market by acquiring SemaConnect, which it is also rebranding to Blink. This acquisition added nearly 13,000 chargers to the company’s existing portfolio.
Blink Charging UK say it will now work with over 50 local authorities, and last year announced plans for 600 new EV charge points in the UK and Ireland in collaboration with Q-Park.
