UK energy supplier Octopus Energy’s generation arm has now opened seven onshore wind farms across Europe with a combined capacity of 250MW, the company said.
The wind farm projects, based in the UK, Germany, Sweden, France and Poland, have a combined capacity of 250MW. Octopus Energy Generation now manage a portfolio of £6 billion of renewable assets and energy translation projects globally.
The company now manages 3.2GW of renewables, with a target of reaching 20GW in Europe by 2030. A key part of this pipeline will be onshore wind, which the European Union recently said it wants to double capacity in.
Octopus has been expanding internationally, signing deals in Japan to provide its services there and produce around 250MW of solar power, and is now also taking its “Fan Club” model to other global markets, which will provide customers with cheaper energy when it’s windy.
Zoisa North-Bond, chief executive of Octopus Energy Generation, said: “It’s brilliant to see this flurry of wind farms we’ve built across Europe start generating clean power – and we’ve got big plans to invest in lots more.
“New green energy is absolutely essential to accelerate our shift to a renewables-first economy and wean ourselves off expensive fossil fuels. To make sure this energy crisis is the very last one, we can build our way out through cheap green power.”
The 7 onshore wind energy farms that Octopus Energy has brought online since 2022:
1 – Cumbernauld, Scotland, UK. 50MW, managed by Octopus on behalf of Octopus Renewables Infrastructure Trust (ORIT).
2 – Biebelnheim-Gabsheim, Germany. 22.4MW wind farm located in Wörrstadt near Frankfurt was bought last year from renewables developer JUWI and wiwi consult, on behalf of the Sky fund (ORI SCSp).
3 – Berceronne, France. 9MW.
4 – Cerisou, France. 24MW.
5 – Rodene, Sweden. 86MW. Octopus Energy has a 49% stake.
6 – Krzecin, Poland. 19MW, managed by Octopus on behalf of ORIT.
7 – Kuslin, Poland. 40MW, managed by Octopus on behalf of ORIT.
