EU confirms binding target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by ‘at least 40%’

The European Council has reached an agreement over the 2030 climate and energy policy framework. The council has agreed a binding EU target of an at least 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. This target will be delivered collectively by the EU, with all Member States involved in the effort.
