People in the south of the UK are less interested in conserving heat than those in the north and west of the country, a new poll has found.
The survey by One Poll, on behalf of energy efficiency firm entu, found that two-thirds of Londoners admitted to having the heating on eight hours a day while 83.1% of those in East Anglia admitted to having the heating on for 4-12 hours a day. The figure for south-east England was even higher with 57.85% of respondents admitting to having the heating on for 16 hours a day.
Colder regions were found to have the heating on for less time. Those who said they heated their home for less than five hours a day totalled 795 in Scotland, 75% in Northern Ireland and 74% in Wales. In the Midlands, 61.6% of people said they only ran their heating for 1-4 hours per day.
“It is interesting to see which regions are comfortable to leave the heating on, and which are more concerned with conserving heat and energy,” said Ian Blackhurst, CEO and founder of entu. “Energy efficiency is something all UK residents should be aware of. It’s important for the environment and being more energy efficient will also have a positive financial impact for individuals.”
