The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has announced the construction of the world’s largest multi-use electricity power link between the UK and Netherlands.
UK Minister for Energy Security, Grant Shapps, was in South Korea on April 10 where he signed a cooperation agreement with its government which promotes investment opportunities in the UK renewables sector to South Korean firms.
As part of the demand flexibility service trial, energy company British Gas has paid out over £1.8 million since December 2022, saving at total of 147MWh of energy.
Energy generation and storage company Statera have released plans to develop a 3GW green hydrogen project in Scotland capable of supplying the UK with up to 30% of its 10GW by 2030 hydrogen target.
UK Hydrogen Champion Jane Toogood has called on the UK government to create a plan for an integrated energy infrastructure to incorporate gas, electricity and hydrogen, with potential savings of up to £38 billion.
“A lot of regulatory and political uncertainty within the UK over the last 12 to 18 months has led to increased international competition for renewables,” said Adam Berman, deputy director of policy at Energy UK.
A 1.4GW proposed interconnector, which was set to connect Scotland’s electricity network with Norway, has seen its license application refused by the Norwegian government.
