Vattenfall is continuing its flurry of electric vehicle (EV) activity with eighteen new charge points in Hampshire.
The chargers are to be operated by Vattenfall as part of its InCharge network with renewable electricity supplied by the Swedish utility.
They are being funded by a grant from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Vattenfall itself, and delivered by Joju Charging.
Joju signed a supply agreement in September with Alfen for the provision of chargers from its Alfen Eve range. It also offers chargers from EO, NewMotion and Myenergi’s Zappi charger.
The chargers are to be installed at eight car parks in Andover and Romsey in Test Valley as part of Test Valley Borough Council’s bid to cater for growing uptake of EVs on its roads.
In Andover, they are to be installed at the Chantry Centre, Shepherds Spring Lane, George Yard, South Street and Borden Gates car parks in Andover. Alma Road, Lortemore Place and Princes Road will play host to the chargers in Romsey.
Work has already begun on the installations, which are set to be complete by the end of this month.
Anthony Hinde, director for InCharge in the UK at Vattenfall, said the supplier is “determined to put the driver first”.
“Our charging stations, combined with future roaming agreements with other charging station operators, will improve the electric vehicle driver experience in Hampshire and across Britain.”
Vattenfall has been especially active in the EV space in the past few months. It signed a roaming agreement with NewMotion in August, partnered Honda for the launch of a renewable EV tariff in October and was unveiled as a partner on an on-street charging project using Virgin Media infrastructure last week.
Nick Adams-Kind, planning and transport portfolio holder at Test Valley Borough Council, said: “We have to make sure we are not just keeping up with change, but trying our best to stay one step ahead. There is a growing number of electric vehicles driving in our borough and there is no reason why they shouldn’t be able to top up their charges at a number of our car parks.”
