As climate change influences more extreme weather events, an expert roundtable has urged greater consideration be paid to the impact weather conditions have on wind production in the UK.
Consumers based in Northern Ireland were able to avoid paying a collective total of £500 million thanks to the nation’s wind farms having provided 42% of electricity for the year.
Less than two weeks into the year 2023 and a new wind generation record has been set, with the technology generating over 21.6GW yesterday (10 January).
The Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has estimated that the development of 45GW of onshore wind farms would take up 2.1% of the UK’s total land prompting calls to scale the renewable energy technology.
